Last night I met with Jun, my child tutee. I did not get to
meet with him last week, because he went on a vacation to North Carolina. Subsequently,
we spent the first half of our session discussing his trip. He took so many pictures!!
He was most excited to share with me his adventures in the science museum. He
drew pictures recounting some of the mechanisms he saw that weren’t pictured in
the photographs. He also introduced to some of his parent’s friends (via
pictures of course). He even had a video of himself singing a song with a
family friend. I tried to get him to sing it to me, but he was very shy! After
we finished talking about his trip, he read a book for me about the Gulf of
Mexico. Since I knew that he would be tested over the material the following
day, I asked him comprehension questions throughout to make sure that he
understood the material that was being presented to him. Afterwards, we had a
brief discussion about some of the main points of the book. Jun knows so many
random facts about the ocean and aquatic animals!! I was very impressed.
He sounds so smart and motivated. That child likes learning for learning itself (drawing mechanisms!!). That's great you're there to give him an audience and keep encouraging his speaking and reading skills.
ReplyDeleteOh, he loves learning!! I am going to miss our tutoring session very much! :(
