CO #3 Mark Garcia
To begin, this probably was the least helpful classroom observation, however I must write about it because I do not have time to observe another one at this point before all blogs are due. Alas, I will recount my experience, which was at least a helpful exercise in form evaluation and bureaucratic procedure... I arrived to foundations speaking class at 1pm looking forward to see someone teaching speaking in action, which is what I probably will be teaching in the future. However, upon arrival I discovered that that day was the day of their final!..The instructor was altogether still happy I was there because she had a lot on her plate that day. She also had to leave early to go to the doctor...To begin, she introduced me to the class and told everyone how the final evaluation was going to work. She told the students (and me) that I would be explaining how to do the evaluation for her and for the class. After she left the room the get speech samples from each student, I passed around the evaluation sheet. It was pretty self-explanatory. It used smiley faces for determining if someone had positive or negative feelings towards certain aspects of the class. Everyone was really friendly and for the most part understood. Some people also acted like they understood more than they did. That was ok because I was their to help...Midway through the evaluation I started to ask them about the final test and we were all reviewing for it. They had to talk about themselves and their daily life. I started asking them to name different parts of the body and their daily routines. It was rather enjoyable helping them. And it was good practice talking to a group of people that were exclusively beginners. I think however I will try to make time to witness a normal class session in action very soon.
