TP #10 Mark G
On Wednesday I met with David for our last tutoring session. When I found him in the library, his mom handed me a list of vocabulary words that he needed to work on and a book for his reading log as usual. We found a table and sat down and we talked for a couple minuets about his day at school. When we started working, I asked him if he would create some sentences with each of the words, needless to say he was reluctant to do so. No worries. I asked him if he could just tell me the spelling and definition of the word and if he didn't know it then he would have to write out a sentence. He agreed to this idea and we began. After the first word I also asked him to give me the part of speech as well. He did really well for the most part, I would say he got about 70% of them right. After that we read his book, it was all about 'mater' and its different forms, it had lots of pictures and 'fun facts', I love kids science books. Anyway, I had him read the book and helped him out with some pronunciation. He also continues to run over sentences and not respect most punctuation but his comprehension is pretty impressive. After reading the book, he had enough time to write about two sentences. He did it fairly easily and with correct grammar. I was really proud of him. I enjoyed my experience tutoring David. However I do not know if I will necessarily be looking for jobs working with them. Sometimes they can try your patients and you have to have the right attitude and know how to communicate effectively with them. All in all a good experience.
