TP #11 Madison
Today when I tutored Mathew we started out as we usually do by him reading a book for 20 minutes, and then him writing a reading log about it. I have him read to himself now, so that he can practice his extensive reading. When writing his summary he had guided questions to help improve his writing by helping him catch all the main points. The guided questions were who, what, where, when, why, and how about the story he was reading. Once he wrote his summary, I had him read it out loud to me as I read over his shoulder, and we corrected his errors together. When I noticed a mistake I'd point it out, if he hadn't already fixed it, and then he would immediately correct it. Afterwards, he did his math homework. He only got one question wrong after I reviewed it; I had to explain the answer in detail because he made the same mistake twice and didn't understand what he had done. Then we studied his spelling words together. I quizzed him, and told him that if he got any wrong then our session would be two hours, but I was joking of course. :)
