TP 9: Caitlin

Amanda and  I went to Atomic coffee to study. It was interesting coming here because there were so many choices, Amanda couldn’t make up her mind and decided not to get anything.  She wanted to work on prepositions so that was our topic. I had found some great definitions of prepositions for Purdue OWL https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/594/01/ and some worksheets that Amanda did to practice prepositions. She kept the worksheets and the reference sheet so that she will remember what we went over. The worksheets took the entire hour because she had to either fill in the blank or choose the correct preposition to make sense in the sentence and then she would read me the sentences and we would go over it if one didn’t make sense. There were a lot of questions about why we use certain prepositions and not others and I knew the questions were coming from direct translation of her Portuguese. I encouraged her to think in English and not translate and it seemed to help her accept the ambiguity tolerance in that I understood where her questions were coming from because of my knowledge of Spanish.  She asked me if  her friend Renan, my conversation partner, could tutor with us since I was already meeting with him. I explained that I needed to get tutoring hours and conversation partner hours and that we could do both. So now I sometimes tutor Amanda and Renan and sometimes I meet them to hang out and speak in English.
