CP 9: Caitlin

When I met with Renan and Amanda for lunch two weeks ago, we caught up on our weekends and talked about all of our plans. Amanda and Renan had a break in their CIES classes and were both planning trips. Renan told me about his plans to go to Panama City and Amanda told me about all of her options from Miami to Orlando. I think she didn’t care where she went as long as she was able to travel. When the topic died down, I just started asking questions and telling stories to get them talking again and we got to the subject of Paolo Freire, a Brazilian educator and philosopher that I had learned about in one of my classes in my last semester. They didn’t know who he was but Amanda recognized the name because she had heard of a monument or something in his honor. http://ptoweb.org/aboutpto/a-brief-biography-of-paulo-freire/ . If you are in for a good philosophical read as a future educator, try Pedagogy of the Oppressed. We made plans to go do something for our next conversation partner meeting.
