During what seemed like the busiest week of my life, the news that my friend and conversation partner, Naser, would be moving back to Kuwait never reached my ears. When I found out, I only had two days to see him before He moved. Luckily, I was able to reach him on his phone, and we planned to go out for coffee and kanafa (a popular dessert in the Levant). I picked him up at 11:00PM and we drove together to the restaurant. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the owner and seated in a different section of the restaurant than regular guests. We both sat down and sipped tea while reminiscing on the past year that we have come to know each other.
Naser shared his experiences with me. We discussed his time here including the ups and downs of living in a new country. I find it funny because I will be in his shoes in a matter months as I move to the Middle East. Hearing his experiences and struggles have encouraged and prepared me for my new life over the next two years.
This was a very sad day because it was my last day getting to spend time with Naser in Tallahassee. We ended the evening with a hug. As I walked away, He said, "See you soon." This left me with a huge smile on my face!
