Mark B. CP #3

In need of another conversation partner, I requested one and received Fares Alenezi. We corresponded by phone and decided to meet outside of CIES. On a cool October day, I met Fares and was immediately impressed by his English. He spoke fluently, comfortably, and with seldom errors.

Fares hailed from a small town outside of Kuwait City. He was very sociable in our first meeting and eager to participate in conversation. We shared the normal introductory information (age, birthplace, family history, future goals, etc) and transitioned into the swapping of stories.

He told me a crazy one about his father, who is paramedic in Kuwait City. In this particular tale, his dad had to save a man who was choking on his own tongue (WHAT?). To remedy this, he literally reached in, pulled it forward, and then performed CPR. I think it was at this point that I puked in my own mouth a bit. The rest of my stories paled in comparison.

To conclude our meeting, Fares inquired about learning American slang. I told him that I would research it and share my findings with him at our next get-together.
