TP# 8 Mark G.

I met with David today at the library. He picked out his book and we found a table on the second floor. David had a lot to do for that day. In addition to his usual reading log, he had two math pages and a vocabulary list that he had to study. We got to work first on the story and reading log. This activity would take up the majority of the time unfortunately because the material was little too hard for him. The story was called colors, and was in fact about light and how it works. He was able to read the story just fine, and was happy to read it, but when it came to comprehension he was a somewhat confused. Usually when he is confused he gets frustrated and doesn't want to work anymore. I tried to explain it to him the best I could and he was able to come up with three sentences. We switched gears at one point because we didn't seem to be making headway. We went over his vocabulary that his mom had asked me to. He was suppose to make sentences with each of the words but he wasn't interested in that because he said he had done that with his other tutor (which I would find out to be untrue). Instead I asked him what each word meant and he did not know about 80% of them. I had him spell the words out at least and explain the definition with a sentence example of my own. We ended the session with that. David picked out a chapter book that he said he will read and do a reading log for next week that I will check. Hopefully that one will be better.
