For this session, Neto and I discussed habits. Understanding habits allows one the ability to break bad habits and develop new ones. I began the lesson by introducing some of my habits (both bad and good) so that Neto would have a general idea of the term and would then be able to apply it to his own life by providing me with examples. Next, I picked a particular situation, and together, we listed good habits and bad habits for the situation. One situation pertained to study habits. I asked Neto, "What are some things that you do to prepare for a test?" Personally, I always make sure that I go to bed super early the night before an exam. Late night cram sessions just don't cut it for me. As it turns out, Neto is the same way. It was nice to discover that some sort of commonalty existed between us. Conversely, I also asked him to provide things that he would not do before a test. For the next situation (pertaining to healthy habits and exercising), I asked him to write down examples of his own without my assistance. He did very well. Finally, I asked him to think of his own situation and to provide good and bad habits for it.
For the last half of our session, we reviewed his ongoing vocabulary assignment. Most of the new words that he added to his list were from the song "Fix You" by Coldplay, of which happens to be one of my favorite songs!! He seems to really enjoy his vocabulary assignment. I suggested other songs that he might be interested in listening to, with the hopes that he might discover new words.
