TP #6 Mark G.

Last Wednesday I met up with David at the library for our weekly tutoring session. He seemed to be in high spirits and happy. We started by picking a book out from the kids section for his reading log.  Usually David picks a book that is his level or lower, but I encouraged him to pick one that was a little tougher since they are short reads. He picked a level four book about hockey. Seriously, as a side note, since I began tutoring David I have started to learn a lot of random facts. Anyways, as usual I had him read me the book and I asked him comprehension after every two pages. At the end of the book I had him tell me the definitions to new vocabulary words that he was introduced to. I had him write down the words as well and sometimes this can frustrate him because the words are not all so straight forward, like 'league' for example. After reading the story and going over the new vocabulary he was ready to write his summary. I guided him a little by asking him to start with the big idea first and then talk about the finer details. David came up with five good sentences that summed up the story pretty well, all in all I think we had a successful session. Next time I will go over the vocabulary from last time to see if he retained it.
