Pamela CO3 Marilyn Sohan's Polar Bear Stories

on Tuesday October 8th ants 11 a.m. I went in observed a reading class. Ms. Sohan collected the homework assignment that the students had been given the day before. She explained that they would be continuing with the polar bear story. I love the way she said if you have done your homework you will be prepared for the quiz today if you did not do your homework send you will not understand the quiz. She started with a little schema building, then she wrote the word summary on the board and asked the students if they remembered what the word meant. For the first assignment, student's' were instructed to write a summary of the polar bear article. They were given 10 minutes to complete their assignment. Stopwatch.com was well used, and Ms. Sohan gave 6min...3min.reminders. Secondly, after the polor bear story was re-read in a modified voice. The students were asked to work in pairs to correct their summeries. Excellent way to have students make their own error corrections. Lastly, a short multiple choice quiz was given to check their comprehension of the story. Great reading class!
