CO #3 Madison

For my third and final class observation, I observed Mrs. Debbie Caretta's class. Mrs. Carretta is a Level 1A listening teacher. I have already observed one of Mr. Fleming's listening classes; however, that was a much more advanced class. I was excited to observe this class because both my conversation partner and my CIES tutee were in this class- Jessica and Erico:). At the very beginning of class Mrs. Carretta gave out a homework assignment, which was an online teacher evaluation form that she wanted the students to complete at home. She went through the entire process of what to do with the students both orally, and by showing them what to do on the projector. She even wrote down key details on the board like important websites, links that they should click on, and steps they needed to follow. She called on students specifically to get their attention when she needed to gain control of the classroom. Similar to Mr. Fleming, she engaged in small classroom chat with the students to lower their affective filters. Jessica, my conversation partner even told me that Mrs. Deb was her favorite teacher at CIES, and that she thought she was very funny. Mrs. Carretta had the class do a group assignment next. She paired the students up, then gave them two different worksheets. Students had to give each other directions around a city by saying "go left, or right" in order to reach the destination that was on their worksheet. This was a great listening activity; however, some of the students such as Erico had already done it in their speaking class~ so I guess this could be a good activity for both speaking and listening classes. While students were doing their group assignments Mrs. Carretta walked around the room and assisted anyone that needed help completing the activity. She also asked me to go around and help students which I was more than happy to do!!:)
