Mel TP # 8

I met Maria and we started our our session by talking about our respective weekend, and her birthday which had just passed. I then gave her a reading exercise I found online on “geckos” which she seemed to really like (I better keep an eye out for more animal stories) with some comprehension questions and short responses. The exercise was from an ESL source and I found out that she is reading higher then her ESL grade level which is great, she even said she found the exercise to be pretty easy.. After, we started reading her new book "Journey to the Center of the Universe" which had some tough, specific diction in it. But,she more or less understood the bulk of the material based off of context clues. She also really seemed to like the adventure aspect of the book. To wrap up, I helped her complete her reading log, filling in character names and writing a short summary.
