I
observed Vicky Ledbetter’s speaking class a few weeks ago and it was a great
class! It was a pleasant surprise that one of my conversation partners was in
this class and we walked straight to class from lunch together. The activity
was the presentation of a script that small groups of two had prepared. One person was a famous person and the
other person was an interviewer. Vicky started the class by playing a Taylor
Swift song and some small talk with her students about the music video and
Taylor Swift’s music and then the class broke into their groups to practice
before they presented. There was actually one other person observing on the day
that I did and Vicky invited us to talk with the students if they had any
questions about their scripts. The presentations were entertaining and the
students had fun with them. Two groups both had the “greatest soccer player in
the world” so there was friendly competion between these two groups and one group did an interview with Hello Kitty (This was my
conversation partner’s group). Vicky managed the class well. Each group gave
their presentations and Vicky collected errors. She also had the audience ask
the interviewer and interviewee additional questions after each presentation.
It was really entertaining, especially when someone asked “Hello Kitty” how she
could talk for long without a mouth. At the end of the class, Vicky discussed a
few beautiful mistakes with the class and she was going to give individual
feedback back to the class the next day.
