Fawaz and I met at the downtown library. We began the session by walking around the library and naming things, spelling them, then describing their use and breaking compound words into their components. Abdul accompanied us, and both Fawaz and Abdul took notes as we proceeded. We returned to our table and Fawaz made sentences from the words we had discussed, with my correction. Fawaz is not currently good at production, so is open to instruction and correction. His skill is not yet good enough for gentle indication and self-correction.
Next we reviewed the external parts of the body at Fawaz's request. First, I simply named and spelled them as he wrote them down. Then we reinforced what he had learned by asking "What is ...?", to which he replied with the correct body part. We also introduced the idea of "pain" and "ache", and combined the latter with certain parts of the body, such as headache, stomach ache, and toothache. I explained that this concept did not work with the heart; that heartache was not exactly a physical heart in pain. I didn't try to explain in detail, since his command of vocabulary is currently low.
Last, Fawaz wanted me to conjugate 'to be' and 'to have' in the simple present and simple past. He is very eager to learn, and was grateful that we spent time on what he had a burning desire to learn.
