CP#4 Alice

Yesterday afternoon I met up with Binshan in the CIES lounge. She was sitting with a group of her friends – Ariel, Miko, and Leo. After engaging in some small talk, I asked everyone if they would be interested in playing a card game, one that I had been interested in playing during our previous meeting. To my delight, everyone said yes. For the next hour, everyone played Go Fish! To her absolute glee, Miko won the first round. Poor Binshan couldn’t seem to put together a set for points. A point in the game that I found most entertaining centered on Miko’s reactions whenever someone would ask her for a card that she did not have. For example, Leo would ask Miko for a six, to which Miko would respond, “Oh, no! I am sorry. I do not have that card, but next time ask for a seven, because I have that one!”. Everyone would laugh, and I would tell her so many times not to do this, because a major aspect of the game is to safeguard your cards. However, after a while, I just left it alone, because she still managed to win!
Sprinkled in with our card game were bits of random conversation. Miko asked if there were any places in Tallahassee that did karaoke. Due to my ignorance of Tallahassee locations and activities, I responded that I did not know, but that I could look it up for them. Luckily, after over hearing our conversation, Jesse saved the day by quickly amassing a list of places on his phone that had karaoke. I am assuming that karaoke will be in my near future. I asked the girls and Leo if they had a favorite American artist. Leo said that he did not know many American musicians, and that he preferred singing karaoke in Chinese. The girls chimed in that they loved Avril Levigne, which to me was somewhat unexpected, because I do not know anyone that likes Avril Levigne. Apparently, she is a big star in that part of the world! Subsequently, the girls started looking up songs on their phone to show me. We listened to a few and sang along. I think I might make them a mix tape to broaden their horizons on American music!

  1. Go Fish, what a good idea, Alice! Games are so good to transcend language barriers. Mark Bishop and I found that out the other night with the Kuwaitis. And karaoke sounds like so much fun!
