TP #4 Mel

On Tuesday night I met with Maria at the library and we spent most of our time doing extensive reading. She told me how she was able to finish the book we started last week in time for her book report test and she got a passing grade on it, which is a grand improvement. This week we started reading Anne of Green Gables which she really enjoyed. While we mostly focused on comprehension, I went over some tricks at guessing what an unknown word means by looking at the context and she seemed fairly receptive. After our session I talked with her mom about setting up a parent teacher conference with Maria's teacher to go over possible resources at her school. Like, if she could meet with any ESL teachers or get extensions on book reports. Maria seems to be doing well in a lot of her other studies, especially history! And she seems to be adjusting well to Tallahassee which is so lovely to see, she recently joined the FSU child choir! Not to brag about her, It's just nice to see her blooming after struggling a little in the beginning of the school year.
