Tom - Fawaz, CP # 4, Tuesday, September 10

This was a lesson in vocabulary, beginning with a review of the vocabulary that he had been exposed to on Sunday in our walk about downtown.  Fawaz had learned quickly, or had actively studied the words, because he knew the meaning of most of the 30 or so words we had covered.  He did not quite remember the words grass, garage, elevator, museum, and the difference between lowest and highest.

Fawaz tends to be self-directed since he is highly self-motivated.  He first asked the meaning of 'hold on', to which I offered the meanings 'don't let go' and 'wait'.  He next wanted to know the meaning of 'location', to which I responded that it refers to a 'place', and answers the question 'where?'.  Next, he wanted a definition of the word 'clever', to which I offered the synonym 'smart'.

We next covered 'came' and 'went', which we had already investigated on Sunday.  We'll review material as many times as are necessary to learn a topic.  We added the word 'left', but according to my notes, not with the meaning 'to exit', but with the meaning 'to leave something somewhere', as in 'I left my homework at home.'

Then we reviewed various simple forms of the verb 'to come', beginning with the infinitive, and proceeding through the simple past, present, and future tenses.

The positive message here is that Fawaz is the primary director of his own investigation into the English language.
