TP #5 Mel
On
Wednesday I met Mitsue in the CIES kitchen. Since she asked me a lot
of grammar questions last time we met I decided to bring a grammar
book with me and I felt moderately prepared until inevitably she ask
me something that’s not in the book. At first we went over
adjectives, adverbs and pronoun and then she started asking me about
modal verbs. I knew we had just gone over this two weeks ago in TEFL
yet I drew a blank. She luckily had a worksheet from class about it
and I redeemed myself by coming up with different ways she could
remember them and creating some practice examples. But, she still is
having trouble with it so it is going to be the main focus at our
next meeting. We ended our meeting by going over pronunciations, she
has trouble with her “R” and “L” as well as with “TH” and
“T.” This week I realized I think my tutoring session with her
will benefit from a structured lesson plan, so I plan on implementing
that for our next meeting.

I'd like to recommend Michael Swan's to you. It covers pretty much all kinds of grammar-in-use and grammar-in-context. As for your pronunciation lesson, why don't you create some minimal pairs for Mitsue and have her practice them?
