CO#1 Mel

On Wednesday the fourth, I went to Ryan Flemmings intermediate reading class. I got there before the teacher and a lot of the students were looking at me and after I was introduced someone said "I thought she was a new student!"  So I knew it was off to a good start. The class atmosphere was really positive and casual. You could tell that they all really liked and respected the teacher. He would use their names and gently correct them when they made errors but in such a way that he just seemed like a good friend. The lesson plan was very diverse and the pace of the class was quick so no one seemed to loose interest. Their was a lot of group activities and the teacher would not let them finish the exercise until they had all the answers correct. The last activity was an essay on sound, the piece seemed a bit challenging but was really neat! The teacher often walked around during group activities and took notes on the progress of the students. I also noticed that he kept coming back to a sheet of paper on his desk and taking notes. At the end of class he showed me that he was taking notes on how he could improve the lesson or the class. It was really a treat to sit in and i feel like actually watching a class and a lesson plan come to life was really helpful this week in helping me create my reading lesson plan.
