Jordan TP #1: How do I Describe the word Describe?

I met Nasser at CIES and asked him what he wanted to work on. We eventually started with his grammar foundation, word order, nouns, adjectives, countable and non-countable etc. Due to the language barrier, I utilized my Arabic skills since I had learned complex Arabic grammar. It became easy to help Nasser gain a solid base with nouns and adjectives once I explained their Arabic equivalent and the differences in word order. I then had him describe in five sentences various objects and people in the room using nouns and adjectives. The hardest part of the lesson was describing to him the word describe. We finished up with me writing down sentences and Nasser had to tell me if the word order was correct, where the nouns and adjectives were in each sentence and their meaning as well as if they were countable or non-countable. He wants to hang out at his apartment next time and work there.

  1. Jordan, try to use synonyms when you don't know how to "describe" a word. ;) You can also provide enough example sentences using the word so that students can guess what it means using context clues.
