CP#3 International Coffee Hour and Habibi!

I went to the International Coffee Hour that takes place at the Center for Global Engagement with my friend Abdul! If you are not familiar with the coffee hour, I highly encourage you to get involved. It was an awesome opportunity to eat some homemade Turkish food (including the best cooked Mozzarella cheese balls you will eat). I entered into the "Globe CafĂ©" and heard someone say "Habibi!" This sums up the experiences I have had with Abdul. The term means "my friend" or "my love". It is a popular greeting for Arab men when they see each other. When I was with Abdul that night, I felt apart of His culture as a friend and fellow Arab. He introduced me to many of his friends who also greeted me with a jovial, "HABIBI". I know it seems silly, but an important aspect of being a global citizen is being able to adapt to other cultures. I must accept other cultures and be accepted by them. It is truly a beautiful thing!

  1. That sounds so nice, Jesse! I like that phrase as a greeting. How friendly. It reminds me of the kiss typical of Latin American cultures--a quick way to make you feel welcome!
