CP#2 "It's way too hot!"

On Tuesday afternoon, I decided to attend the Tea hour at CIES hoping that I might either find my conversation partner (who had not responded to my text) or strike up a conversation with a CIES student and make a new friend. As I entered in the Kellogg Building, I stumbled across my conversation partner last semester (who I thought returned to Kuwait). In excitement, I practically tackled him trying to say hello. A bit charismatic you might say, but it is exciting seeing a person I thought moved back home. "Habibi!" He shouted and gave me a hug. After exchanging "hello's", we decided to grab some coffee. As we walked out of the CIES student lounge, I asked, "Where do you want to sit?" To my horror, he pointed to the table that half covered in shade. We grabbed our seats and began to catch up. When I had last seen him, his English was just progressing, and he had limited vocabulary. I was very impressed when he was able to produce complete sentences with a much larger vocabulary. His English speaking ability had improved greatly. Through the conversation, he told me of his home and his experiences with the heat in Kuwait. I could feel his pain having spent three summers in the Middle East (one of which was living in the desert). Feeling like a wimp, He reassured me that I would not survive the heat in Kuwait if I hated Tallahassee heat. I guess our 92 degree Fahrenheit does not seem to top 124 degrees Fahrenheit. I was able to speak to him in Arabic while He responded in English. Even though I was drenched in sweat from head to toe, spending time with a good friend was a blast!

Looking forward to working with Naser even more! Keep posted for more!

  1. Renewing/reinforcing your good friendships in CP 1 and 2 should set the groundwork for an excellent learning relationship this semester.

  2. It's great to see the long term progress as friendships progress.I enjoyed reading your blog! It makes me think of a friend of mine that I met up with over the weekend. I first met her and her husband 5 years ago and she was just learning English but now she is completely fluent and though they no longer live in Tallahassee, they are some of my oldest Tallahassee friends.
