CP 1 Mark-first encounter

Yesterday after class I had the pleasure of meeting Nasser, 21 years old and from Saudi Arabia, who just moved to Tallahassee (and the United-States for that matter) only 3 weeks ago. I picked him up, and along with my roommate went to go eat dinner at Momo's pizza. It can be a little strange I guess to just meet someone and have your first moments together to be in a car ( this is the second time this has happened to me this year) but Nasser was very friendly and warm. He has a very wide smile and when he gets excited or surprised his eyes light up. Not to mention some really cool hair! We covered a wide range of introductory information in no particular order. I know that he likes American music and culture in general but at the same time really cherishes his own. When we arrived at Momo's ordering was somewhat challenging. Being suggestive helps when someone is shy. Our conversation was interesting and it touched upon a lot of different things. We talked about family, friends, roommates, food. We often times had to use the phone to translate key words. One interesting word to try to describe is 'voting' or 'a vote'. Another interesting word to explain is opposite. You really have to start thinking in creative ways. I also had to slow down when I spoke because he couldn't understand and I would sometimes have to repeat things three or four times. One of the highlights of our time together was when the pizza actually came. His eyes lit up! He was literally taken aback by the size of the pizza. We had to explain that pizza in America isn't usually that big. After we finished I took Nasser home and told him I would see him soon. He was very happy to have some new friends because he doesn't really know anyone yet. I look forward to getting to know him better in the coming weeks.

  1. It really sounds like you two had a great time! I have always been taught growing up that food is always a great conversation starter and mood maker. There is just something about good food that makes everything better!
