CO #1: Philly Cheese Steak Style: Listening

This past Thursday I attended Vicky Ledbetter’s listening course in room 229. She first integrated me into the lesson by having me listen to the students describe how to cook a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. This was very interesting since they applied the words tongs, Parkinson’s disease, fry. After our intangible dish reached perfection, she split the room into two groups and had a charades inspired describing the vocabulary competition. There were some very difficult words and some funny ones like Las Vegas.  It was pretty good listening to people describe Las Vegas based on its pop culture reputation and stereotypes. I enjoyed Vicky’s teaching style of constantly asking questions and also talking to everyone in a random order as well as making the students work together as a team. This experience shed light on how to manage a classroom and keep them interested.

  1. What was the purpose of doing this activity? Any rationale behind this teaching method?
